20. Allocating Properties

Properties becoming available for allocation under this Scheme will be treated as available to letting to qualifying applicants in a particular band or bands.

Such a property will be allocated to the applicant who has waited longest in the relevant band, unless there are exceptional circumstances

For example, occasionally when a property becomes available which is particularly suitable for an individual applicant who has specific needs. It may be allocated to them even if they are not at the top of the Housing Register.

This is to support the objective of effectively matching available housing stock to suitable applicants and making best use of the council's housing stock, especially of adapted properties. In these or similar circumstances a senior officer will need to agree that the applicant may be allocated the property ahead of applicants who have waited longer.

The council will produce an Annual Lettings Plan to show the projected allocations of properties by bedroom size and area to particular Bands.
